Hello, Laura. Your John William Staley was a brother to my gg-grandmother, Emma Elizabeth Seabrook Staley, who married William Abner Merritt. I have quite a lot of the Staley line (well documented) on my website www.familyfotofinder.com. However, I have not been able to trace the Staley line beyond their father, Christian Staley. I have their maternal (Hanahan) line back for several more generations. Please get in touch, as this line is one I've been struggling with for a long time. I am eager to see where you fit in.

All best,

P. S. Your John William was probably born on Edisto Island. His father later purchased Accabee Plantation on James Island, now a part of Charleston. One source states that John William was buried in Nacogdoches Co., TX, although I have not been able to verify that.

I have a copy of our family history that shows we have a Dr. John William Staley that was from Charleston, South Carolina born in 1817. He went to other states and then settled in northeast Louisiana. I can not find where he was buried in Louisiana and I can't find any trace of him in South Carolina. If anyone can give me any help I would be very grateful.
